Faculty Mentoring Programs
Mentorship is a relationship between one or more prominent individuals, mentor(s), and a less experienced faculty member, a mentee or protégé. Mentors can play a central role in faculty development by promoting professional, personal, and social growth of the mentee. It is well established that good mentoring enhances success rates and retention of new faculty members.
Recruitment and retention of excellent faculty are essential to the academic vitality of any university. Therefore, it is essential that the University of Central Florida (UCF) provide all new faculty members with a nurturing environment that promotes career development and job satisfaction. While the primary focus is on mentoring junior faculty, our mentoring programs are designed to meet the needs of any faculty member, regardless of rank and experience. Recognizing the positive impact of good faculty mentoring, the university has affirmed its commitment to faculty success by developing a College-Level Mentoring Program. Although the Office of Faculty Affairs has developed this university-wide program and related support programs, other well-established mentoring activities exist throughout the university.
